Helping our students meet their basic needs
Most people don’t know that many UHMC students have been houseless or food-insecure. Other students are living paycheck to paycheck and may not be able to make it to school when they need to choose between books or child care, tuition or car repair.
But they are working hard to improve their livelihoods and have made it to college! They are training as chefs, mechanics, nurses, HVAC installers and so much more.
Funding that helps students through emergencies or provides them with food can change the trajectory of a life. Here is what students who have picked up food bags from our food pantry have to say:
- I am really grateful for the food!
- Everything in the bag is what I usually buy.
- The amount of food received really helps with my large family.
Please help us level the playing field for all of Maui’s students so that in turn they can earn livable wages and contribute at their fullest potential.
