At UH Maui College, students are doing more than learning skills. They are building real solutions for real needs.
Through the Hale Pāpaʻi initiative, students learn carpentry skills while constructing small, functional storage structures that support individuals and families facing housing insecurity. While modest in size, these structures have life‑changing impact, offering safety, stability, and a foundation for rebuilding toward a better future.
This work begins with a FREE one‑week Basic Construction class, which provides students with hands‑on training and access to tools at no cost. Rooted in community and purpose, the program teaches practical skills such as carpentry, painting, roofing, flooring, and basic construction design — all while students directly serve their neighbors. Many participants go on to enroll in UH Maui College Construction Credit Courses or join the UH Maui College Apprenticeship Program, helping build Maui’s future workforce.
Your Giving Day gift helps expand this effort by supporting the materials, tools, instruction, and student learning opportunities that make each build possible.
To date, 63 structures have been delivered to new homes, with 255 more still on the waiting list — each representing a need waiting to be met.
