For more than 30 years, Pacific Internship Programs for Exploring Science (PIPES) has bridged the gap between the next generation of leaders and the organizations stewarding our ʻāina. Through paid internships, PIPES launches lifelong careers in conservation, cultural stewardship, and community resilience.
Each year, 30 – 40 students are welcomed into a collaborative cohort model that weaves them into a professional ʻohana. Beyond on‑the‑job training with host mentors, interns build lasting connections with peers, staff, alumni, and community partners. Today, PIPES graduates serve as community leaders, researchers, and professors — many returning to mentor the cohorts following in their footsteps.
By supporting PIPES, you are investing in a proven pipeline that transforms passionate students into the professional stewards who will care for our islands for generations to come. Your gift directly supports students at critical moments in their professional and personal development:
- $100 | Equip a Steward
Provides essential field gear, ensuring an intern is safe, prepared, and professional during their summer fieldwork. - $250 | Build Capacity
Supports Māhuahua workshops — specialized sessions that help students navigate complex post‑baccalaureate pathways and career transitions. - $500 | Rooted in Place
Funds a Huakaʻi (field excursion), allowing an entire cohort to build deep, foundational connections with the community and the lands they serve. - $7,500 | Sponsor a Leader
Covers the full cost of one intern’s summer stipend, removing financial barriers and allowing a student to focus fully on their professional transformation.
Your Giving Day gift makes an immediate and lasting impact — strengthening leadership, honoring ʻike kūpuna, and sustaining a future rooted in mālama ʻāina. Mahalo for investing in PIPES and the students guiding Hawaiʻi forward.
