Student‑powered radio and real‑world media learning
KTUH is a student‑run college radio station at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, whose mission is to offer alternative programming that enriches the cultural and educational life of both the university community and the public. The station amplifies student voices, local music, and diverse perspectives across Hawaiʻi’s airwaves.
As a hands‑on learning lab, KTUH gives students real‑world experience in audio engineering, broadcasting, and media production, helping them build professional skills while creating and managing live programming.
“Receiving the KTUH scholarship in Spring 2025 was a great opportunity for me! Not only did it help me pay for my school expenses, but it also gave me a sense of encouragement and support from the community. Knowing that people believe in students like me and want to help us succeed means so much. Scholarships like this truly make a difference, and I hope it continues so future students can feel the same gratitude and relief I did.” Lilliana, Junior.
“Having a radio show is a very different part of the grad school experience. Not many people do it, and though it takes several hours a week, I really like doing it! I enjoy the ability to connect with people through music, and how KTUH as a radio station has their established audience, who call on the phone during my radio show and request for songs and/or say the content they hear is enjoyable, in general and also from my radio show. I have also been able to connect with people from my home Country, Chile, and other places through the online live stream on the https://ktuh.org website.” Ivan, PhD student.
This Giving Day, your support helps make that opportunity accessible. Gifts supporting KTUH student scholarships reduce financial barriers, allowing students to fully participate, focus on their education, and continue building the skills that power independent, student‑driven media.
When you support KTUH, you support students — and the voices shaping Hawaiʻi’s soundscape.
